Opening remarks

A short host script for a concept evening, written for the ear, with stage directions kept apart from the spoken words.

This is placeholder writing created for the preview so the reading layout can be judged. It was not written by Your Name and has not been published anywhere.

Scripts are written to be heard once. Sentences are shorter, rhythm matters more than punctuation, and every name has to be easy to say.

Opening

Host walks on. House lights stay up.

Good evening, and welcome. Find a seat if you haven’t, and if you’re standing at the back, you’re in the best place to hear everything.

Tonight is made of small stories. None of them will take longer than a cup of tea. Some will make you laugh; one or two might stay with you on the way home.

Transition

Lights lower slightly.

Our first reader has travelled further than anyone else tonight, and she has promised to keep it short. Please welcome her.

Close

After the final reading.

That’s the last word for this evening. Thank you for listening so well. The bar is open a little longer, and the stories, I suspect, will carry on without us.
